Free Wordpress Plugins
It’s getting more difficult each day to find a simple, useful plugin among the 1000 other junk stuff being thrown all across the Internet. On this page. we’ll provide a Hot List of the only plugins you’ll need. You may also want to check the list of paid plugins and tools.
Wordpress Management
Plugins that help you manage your blog, internally and externally.
Akismet Spam Protection
Already included in your default Wordpress installation, it will eliminate almost 95% of blog spam as long as it’s updated. You can follow that link to the download page.
Instant Wordpress Upgrade
Automatically upgrade your Wordpress blog from within your dashboard. One of the most useful plugins I’ve come across. This plugin will really save you a lot of time when upgrading, but to remove this plugin is a nightmare as you’ll need to delete ALL your Wordpress files and re-upload them. When installed, the plugin will disable uploads and changes to your wp-admin folder so it may disable you from installing other plugins that require changes to wp-admin.
WP Contact Form
This plugin creates a contact form on your blog, that you can insert into posts and pages. You will be able to add forms directly from your WYSIYG text editor in Wordpress.
Dean’s Permalinks Migration
With this plugin, you can safely change your permalink structure without breaking the old links to your website, and even doesn’t hurt your google pagerank. If you plan to make changes to your blog’s permalinks, this will ensure you don’t lose your traffic or rankings.
Author Images
Displays an image of the author next to the respective post, ideal for multi-author blogs.
Auto-Hyperlink URL
Any domain name you type in your posts (new and existing) will be automatically converted into live links.

A simple todo list to share ideas/todos with blog members. All members work as a team to manipulate the list under “Manage”.

I’ve made a nice and simple recent comments plugin, you can check out here, it looks like yours, but it links to the comment, not to the author’s page
I just downloaded the widget pulg-in, really cool, i recommend
Maybe it’s just me, but I tried the TypeTester page (from the newsletter) which explained everything but where to get it! No link anywhere and I hated having to search for it (and not find it). It should have been obvious.
Then I tried the WP Contact Form, and only got a blank page no matter how long I waited.
Then I tried the Installer .. and got the following message:
Project No Longer Supported
2007-04-09T07:56:41-07:00
Sorry, do to changes and lack of time I no longer support the project you are looking for. Below is a list of all the previously supported projects.
Perhaps it’s just my computer (altho other things work find.) This just hasn’t started out well.
FYI,
When you try to download the ‘Installer’ plugin you get the followning message:

I couldn’t live with out the widget plugin either, however there are only a few hundred widget enabled blogs. You can however add widgets to non widget enabled blogs just make sure you back your files up first so you can safely restore your blog.
Wordpress has now introduced widget support in wordpress realse 2.2 as standard.
For Wordpress 2.0.X you need widget.1.0
For Wordpress 2.1.x you need widget.2.1
The “Contact Form” link does not work out for me… either that or their server is down. Can you recheck the link please?
Thanks mate!
Hi,
there’s something wrong in the WordPress contact form link.
Hello.
I was wondering if you could check out my latest plugin, and see if it is something you would recommend to your readers:
Login LockDown.
It adds extra security to the Wordpress login process without interfering with the user experience.
Thanks.

Hi everybody,
and to install all these plugins you might want to give Extension Manager a try: it lets you install, update, delete and search for plugins.
Cheers,
Christian

Hi,
Thanks for creating this page, it has been a great help and I have implemented quite a few of the plugins into my wordpress theme. Let me know what you think, it’s an online uk discount shopping website.
Thanks,
Adam

Hi,
I had a problem a few weeks ago when loading times on for my page hosted at DreamHost were really slow. One of the things they said is that some Wordpress PlugIns aren’t written that well and slow down performance a lot. Further he said that even if a plugin is deactivated it still may drag down performance since it is still running in the background. His suggestion was to install the plug ins one by one to see if one of them was dragging on performance. Has anyone else found this to be the case? Is there any list of plugins that produce no noticable performance drag and a list of plug-ins that do affect performance?
Do any of the plugins on this page cause any performace problems? Thanks in advance for your help.
All the best,
Ted Sudol
it feels so great when your work is recognized…and people thank you for the same..
it’s the same here..
Thank you for all the plugins..
regards
where can I find the “opt-in manager” plugin, after I download the super-affiliate-wordpress theme, I can not find it? Is it same as opt-in plugin which provide by Peter?
Great plug-ins Monika, thanks. Can you recommend a plug-in for photos besides the Lightbox Gobala recently wrote about here: (www.easywordpress.com/labs/wordpress-lightbox-plugin-for-your-images/)
I want to just hover over a thumbnail and have a larger picture appear (like at iStockPhoto). Thanks!!
I think you’re referring to the highslide plugin:

Hey, this is kind out of the topic. How can we separate between comments and trackbacks like in the smashingmagazine site posts. Considering comments and trackbacks are different, i would put them in a tab navigation or something. I think you know what i mean. Do they have any plugin or any setting on the php or html. Do let me know. Really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot Gobala.
