WordPress 2.4 Update Delayed

Lorelle mentioned yesterday in her blog that the anticipated WordPress update has been postponed to a March release, rather than in mid to late January as originally planned. In the meantime we have the 2.3.2 upgrade live which is essential for certain security measures. So if you haven’t upgraded yet, do it now.
One of the security holes were the draft post features which were available to see to anybody. With the new shiny 2.4 version comes a change in admin panel. Different colours, changed links, changed blogroll are amongst the changes made already. You can preview on the Tubetorial video what has been done so far:
There certainly are some changes but I’m not sure, whether I like them at the moment. I guess I got used to the current colour scheme and now looking at the new one makes me cringe.
Below you see a sneaky preview of the actual dashboard taken from Hyper SVN.
One of the new features is the ability to see how many new comments are waiting to be approved.
You can also see that the former Presentation tab has now given way to the Design tab.
The Right Now feature in your Dashboard is nifty as it tells you exactly how many posts your blog has, how many comments, widgets, categories, pages and lets you navigate straight to the editor to write a new post or page.
The team at WordPress are still working on 2.4 and what you see on the preview will not be the final product. It looks like they are planning to stage the updates in steps which actually does make sense. It is no good confusing the whole WordPress user family by going and changing every single thing.
For now all we can do is check out what’s in store for us and then once the upgrade is released get used to it.

Call me silly, but I think I preferred the dark blue background thing. Maybe they should have stuck to the same color scheme..
