  • Traffic Vs Readers

    November 1, 2007 | By Monika Mundell |

Traffic or readers, some say that is one and the same and just a figure of speech, but I tend to disagree and I tell you why I feel like this. When we blog, we have two main purposes.

The first is to get our message out to others and thanks to blogs we can do this 24/7. A blog is like having our very own TV station on the Internet, capable of reaching millions of viewers. Readers can tune into our blog whenever they feel like it, which is serving their needs to give them what they look for - or so we hope!

The second purpose of blogging is to reach as many people as possible and hopefully attract them with our words of wisdom so they keep coming back for more. Discovering a blog we love is a bit like tuning into our very own favorite soap opera. Soap operas suck us into their vortex by leaving little tidbits right at the end of each episode making it impossible to miss the next part of the series for fear of missing out on something huge. Similar mental attributes happen to us when we keep going back to a particular blog. Something attracts us enough to go back.

Top bloggers know this; they know that if they can attract people to come back over and over again, they are onto a winner. Their personal needs to be heard by as many people as possible are served and the reader feels great because he/she finds what they are looking for.

As bloggers we have the power of the information technology right at the tip of our typing fingers. Being a blogger is a self induced form of journalism. No studies have been fulfilled but despite the missing piece of academic proof we can attract millions of hungry readers that hang onto our every word.

    Well, at least some do.

Any blogger who successfully manages to write with a little bit of magic attracts readers. Readers are the ones who keep coming back, because they love what they see on your blog and they want more of your magic to make them feel better about themselves. Maybe we should rename those bloggers to be “journalistic magicians”.

These blogger manage to capture people’s hearts and their inner most feelings with the power of words. This is truly an art that needs to be respected an honed by those who can.

Traffic on the other side is like rush hour when everybody is on their way home. Commuters might stop at the traffic lights to have a peek through your shop window (blog), but if your display isn’t good enough in the first instance they are gone within seconds and most likely never return.

It is a fact that as a blogger we can never be attractive enough to every reader that happens to find us in cyberspace. But what we can is to convert those that do keep coming back into happy readers by giving them what they want.

A piece of your very own personality, coupled with information that helps them achieve something.

By the way, I’ve made my choice, as a blogger I choose to rather have readers vs traffic.

    What is yours?

    Monika

I’d choose to have readers than traffic. I have no intention of selling my blogs to pay-per-impression advertisements that cause burden on my reader’s browser.

I hope I can master the art of obtaining loyal readers who truly come to read my articles, not just passing by to get their face on my current reader widget.

If you like my vision, please pay me a visit at link removed by admin and for the best of your time, give me some feedback on what you are seeking.

    Cheers,
