Instant WordPress Upgrade Plugin Revisited

Kevin wrote a short intro about the Instant WordPress Upgrade Plugin back in March last year. Upon using this Plugin myself since about 4 month, I felt it was time to take another closer look.
With the recent frequency of updates WordPress has released, this Plugin is probably THE BEST if you are looking at a pain free and fast WordPress upgrade.
It takes not even 5 minutes to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress once the Plugin is installed and is easy even for beginners to use trouble free.
How the Plugin works:
Once chosen, the InstantUpgrade Plugin downloads the latest WordPress version from the WordPress server (WordPress.org) and unpacks it at your server. Then it deletes all of your old WordPress files except wp-content and wp-config.php. It also preserves language packs. The Plugin then places all the new files into your WordPress directory and runs the upgrade script which is contained in the new WordPress version.
All this is achieved with a few clicks of your mouse and a step by step action point.
Download and Install:
You start off by:
- Downloading the Plugin from the developers website.
- Unpzip it and upload it into your WordPress Plugins folder
- Now activate the Plugin in your admin panel
- This step is probably the hardest without knowing what you do. You now need to make certain files on your server (via FTP) writable. (Please see instructions on download page)
Once the Plugin is installed and an update is asked for, follow the online steps in your admin. From your Dashboard click onto Manage and then Instant Upgrade. The following screen shots show you the sequence:
The Instant WordPress Upgrade Plugin is really easy to use. Just make sure you are saving your backups before you click through all the action steps. The Plugin will prompt you to do this in due time.
Warning on the developer website: Please note that you should not use this plugin when your didn’t install WordPress from the original sources, but via a third-party application such as Fantastico.

Go to Fantastico > Wordpress. There should be a button / link there that says “Update”
unfortunately, when I go to hostgator, fantastico, wordpress, there is no button to upgrade

I use HostGator as well. I sent their Support unit an email asking when their Fantastico script would offer the latest upgrade. The reply was “whenever WordPress releases a “stable” version. Not sure what that means exactly, but since 2.3.2 is an “urgent security update” you would think they would do it, well…now.
Jeanette, with Gobala’s tutorial you should be able to follow through on this, or else use the Plugin I mentioned above.
