  • Get 2000 Incoming Links from Directories

    November 6, 2007 | By Gobala Krishnan |

DirectorySubmitterDirectory submissions is a common SEO advice you’ll find in all SEO books. It’s the most basic way to get incoming links to your website or blog.

These kind of links are exactly what the search engines are looking for. The websites with more quality, one way links are typically the sites that rank the highest, period.

However, it is suicide to attempt directory submissions without the help of software.

There are several websites directory submission programs on the market, but the best and easiest to use is a new program created by Brad Callen, called Directory Submitter.

Directory Submitter is free, and with it you can submit to over 350 web directories. With the upgraded Gold Version, you can submit to a total of 2000+ web directories.

It is the most straightforward program that we’ve come across, in that all you need to do is:

    1. Input your website details (i.e. title, description, URL, etc.) into the software
    2. Click on the directory you want to submit to

And then the program will automatically fill in your website details. Then, you simply click the submit button and your website is instantly submitted to the directory. Then, you can move to the next directory and go through the entire list.

If you don’t have time to submit to all 300+ sites, just pick the ones that have PR4 and above, or the ones with an Alexa ranking below 100,000.

    directory-submitter-2

I can’t think of an easier way to get links. Of course, if you’re going to get links this quickly, it’s important to vary your website title (anchor text) every 20-30 links or so, to make things look more natural to the search engines. You don’t want to look like you’re spamming with the exact anchor text litters all across the web.

You can do this very easily via Directory Submitter when you create your project in the beginning.

    directory-submitter-1

The software is constantly being updated by an incredible community of users who all work together to make the software better and better, so you know you’re getting great value for the money.

But there’s ONE drawback - Reciprocal Links.

Although the directories allow you to submit your site for free, they usually require a reciprocal link (link back from your site) and to create 2,000 links on your blog is no easy task. This is one part that cannot be automated by the software at all, so you’ll need to spend some time doing it.

Would you like me to give you that list, so you can just copy and paste it into your blog? I’ve created a list of all the best directories in Directory Submitter here that you can just download and upload to your own WordPress page or static HTML page. This will definitely make your life much easier as you can go through the entire list of directories quickly and then just update the new ones.

Gobala, I think Directory Submitter is pretty good at what it does, but don’t you think the real problem is having to create all those reciprocal links?

I guess for most people that’s going to make it almost unusable. I mean managing even 350 recip. links on just one website would be a lot of work for the average person, but if you go for Gold and submit to 2,000…

Can we spell J.O.B? I’m willing to bet that a huge percentage of people who might find this product useful would never get round to claiming the advantages it gives.

Just seems to me that the reality of the situation is that a lot of people won’t go through the pain of creating all those reciprocal links. If the Gold version did that for them then that would be truly powerful.

I think not all of the directories required reciprocal links. Some do and some don’t. But I think there are terms and conditions to be followed and not all of them will accept your submission.

    Hi LamSeng

Yes, that’s kind of the point really. That some do and some don’t. I can see that the directory submitter can save you some time in actual submissions, but in a way that makes it worse because you’re likely to submit to more directories.

If you do that, you have more links to put up!

Software tools can be very powerful and very beneficial, but I think ultimately we all know there is work to be done no matter what tools you have.

Gobala, I’ve just got what you said earlier.

That’s a very cool idea, very cool indeed. And it would be a fantastic resource to offer. It’s a pretty obvious idea in a way, but like so many obvious ideas it isn’t obvious until someone else thinks of it!

The benefits of the Directory Submitter and your file will be enormous.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for the file!

I would love to try this when the second file comes out as mentioned above. It would be an enourmous help to have the second file as well.

Hi Gobala, recently google god has been slamming sites for building sites like this which just have a huge load of links that promote link farming and nesting like mentioned. Not sure if it really is true, but apparently nofollow links are better, but to get them from the other side without interest is the difficult part. What do yuo think?

    Cheers,

Google seem to be a law unto themselves these days.

Link farming and link nesting are a bit different, I think, than just having a good sized bunch of links. And the real link farmers wouldn’t sneeze at 2,000 links - some of those guys can generate tens of thousands of links without much difficulty.

Paid links are a bit different, but I don’t think this tool has anything to do with that.

Besides, what on earth is Adsense if it isn’t paid links!! I mean come on Google, are paid links good or bad? Or does it just depend where the money’s going? Google don’t seem to mind if I sell paid links on any or my sites if most of the money goes to them.

Seems to me that what’s sauce for the goose should be sauce for the gander.

    Gobala,

Thanks a mighty generous thing to do… sharing your list of 2000 sites.

In view of comments that some have made, maybe you could split it up into several smaller lists so it conforms with the Google criteria of natural-looking growth. Who would add 2000 backlinks overnight?

Or alternatively, leave it to us to do the splitting.

    Hey Gobala and friends,

Here is a free reciprocal link plugin for WordPress. It is described as “the first and the only one link directory plugin on the Internet for WordPress admin to store and maintain a set of links in classified categories.” This link directory plugin can match also your blog theme. http://www.alectang.com/wordpress-link-directory/

Here is another reciprocal link program that is free. http://www.linkmachine.net

    I hope this helps!

No doubts at all that good directories would be able to provide some links but it is not one of the best ways to get them. Article submissions to article directories are a better method. Many of my websites get good rankings (among top 50 for highly competitive keywords like “deft free”, “digital products”, etc) in SEs because I wrote many articles.

One of the little known methods is to get incoming links from largely ignored edu blogs with high GPR provided one know how to avoid those nasty “nofollow”

I tested Directory Submitter before but I was able to finish only about 20 to 30 directories at a time and mind you, it is really time consuming, with all the reciprocal links and everything.

Is the submitter’s pagerank and alexa ranking values updated automatically?

Isn’t the reality that its suicide to use this type of software compared to doing submissions by hand?

Spend quality time picking a suitable category and reading each directories submission guidelines and rules. Software cant do that for you automatically, its more likely to get you rejected from the quality directories due to poor submissions, and accepted in the ones you really dont want to be in…..

I will definitely try it. Since its still a little time consuming, its good for slow directory submissions - not 300 links all at once so you can pace yourself.

Frankly, it turns my stomach to see so many people trying to game the system. Attempting to derive benefit with as little work as possible. Hasn’t anyone ever heard of creating original and engaging content, doing basic promotion through articles, press releases and other GENUINE promotional activities? I have over 10 PR 4-7 sites that earned their traffic the right way…short-cuts never work long term…on the internet or in life!

I really have my doubts about reciprocal links these days. I feel there days are gone and the only way to gain credible links is on a three way basis.

If SEs are still providing some value to them, then I feel it won’t be too long before they will reduce that value because too many people have simply swapped links for SEO purposes.

    Cheers,

    Hi Gobala,

This blog is interesting. So, any update about this reciprocal HTML you were making?

If I may ask, from your experience, is the gold version really better?

Do you have any software for social sites link submissions?
