  • Use Easy Graphic Converter to Manipulate Your Images

    January 29, 2008 | By Monika Mundell |

Since I started using custom fields on my new local niche blog I had to find a way to convert images in batch to make live a little easier when doing thumbnails. For those of you who don’t know what a thumbnail is, they are small icon like images (you basically shrink an image to say 70 x70 px)

After stuffing around with Macromedia Fireworks, I finally figured out on how to make empty images and then paste a bigger one into it to look good. With all I’m learning right now about image manipulation I’ll be a graphic designer before I know it. LOL - just kidding, but it sure is fun finally understanding how to use this “rather expensive” program.

But regardless of my knowledge, Macromedia still doesn’t convert thumbnails in batch which is really time consuming when you are trying to post a couple of posts a day that need thumbs.

While sourcing around the net I found this cool program (and it’s FREE) that helps me just do that. Easy Graphic Converter can be downloaded by clicking on the link and navigating to the program, then clicking on the icon behind.

After downloading and installing it, you can open Easy Graphics Converter to see the below screen.

To create thumbnails from existing images you click on the Add button in the top left window. You can choose between files (a single image) or directories ( a whole image folder) which is what I was after.

    1. A new window will open prompting you to select your folder (ex.photos january 2008) click ok it to select.
    2. On the next popup window make sure that all image formats are ticked (should be automatically)
    3. Hit continue

As you can see above the last action has populated all my images in this particular folder.

    1. Now I need to click on the Settings Tab and select the output image size.
    2. In my case I choose 70 x 70 px and a black background if needed.
    3. Then I hit ok.
    4. Also when asked whether you want to save this in a text file click yes

Above you can see the finished result. To use any of these thumbnails, all I have to do is load any of these URLs into my browser and then save the image or copy and paste into my Windows Live Writer.

Below are some samples to show you how cool this is:

To create my thumbnails took me merely 2 minutes and now I have a huge selection of thumbs that I can use whenever I like.

    Hi Andrew,

This isn’t a Plugin, but a software. Still pretty cool though. :-) Let me know how you go please I want to see your thumbnails.

    One other question. How do you get the words to stop going around the pictures? I want my pictures to be above or below the text not in it. If that makes any sense. :}
