  • Drop The Guesswork And Crack The Adsense Code

    December 12, 2006 | By Gobala Krishnan |

The success of any business depends to a great extent on the effectiveness with which the business is marketed. On the net there are numerous avenues of marketing your business, opportunity or simply any information you wish to convey to the interested people. But marketing without measuring its effectiveness is like walking blind-folded and hoping to reach the destination.

You’ve heard that the top ‘rule of thumb’ in marketing is “Test, Test, Test.”

You’ve got to keep track the results that marketing projects return to you - that is, keep track of those things that bring you the best Return on Investment (ROI).

    In adsense terms,

We have talk about ads position, blending, clickthru and how keywords affect this and that. But how much from that info can we get to better understand the mind of our visitor? Though page-impression, average click-through rate and revenue stats are quite useful…the real stats have remained secrets until now.

Recently there have being a research on improving google ads ROI by using scientific data from some Eye Tracking Lab study. Such implementation involved the usage of “heatmaps” of real searchers’ reading and click patterns. And from there they can determine the best ad positions.

I’ve found this to be quite and interesting research. Among the info that we can induced from this :

    • Search behavior in terms of sex and demographic.
    • Type of ads versus each other, let say search vs link or top vs bottom.
    • Best content or section that drive traffic the most and also clicks
    • How the position affect clickthrough
    • and more….

Even if you don’t spend a dime on marketing or advertising your Adsense websites, you still need to keep track of your investment so that you can know which sites, and more importantly, which ads are worth pursuing and which one are better tossing to the side.

A good practice in tracking your ads:

    • You can use software like AdSpyTracker to monitor your ads carefully and have tracking URL for each ad and a different one for each place you advertise with.
    • Record all your findings on excel, including those that fail and those that were successful
    • Make some judgement and comparison.
    • Monitor the response and conversion by using your tracking system.
    • Again split-testing on the best ads you get and get the winner.
    • Remember to always keep record of your tracking like in excel.

    Just keep in mind that in any Adsense “VRE” website;

High EPC + High Click Thru Rate + Content Webpages + Tracking your stats = Adsense Profits

Now how long should you keep track and test??

It is actually “ALL THE TIME” ;)
