BlogRush Yet To Deliver on Hype
Not too long ago, it was the darling of all bloggers new and established. With a simple interface, it promised the holy grail of making money online - traffic. But while Blog Rush exploded with a bang, the follow-up to the crazy launch has been slow to say the least. All BR’s users would by now be accustomed to seeing the “under construction” image on the home page - I merely added the frowning face to show my disappointment.
A lot have been said since D-day:
- Blog Rush is an MLM scam (referring to the 10-level credit system)
- It only helps the big-name bloggers
- It’s just the same old traffic exchange with a new face
At the end of the day, I still feel that Blog Rush has a lot of potential, if only John Reese and gang would deliver on the hype and give us what they have been promising for ages. Well, maybe not “ages” in the sense of the word, but here in the blogosphere time speeds up, and the day may not be too far when Blog Rush might be considered “yesterday’s news”.
Furthermore, BlogRush’s new guidelines on what blogs are “accepted” have made quite a number of bloggers pissed off. Here are some mixed reactions to BlogRush’s “delayed miracle”:
Marios Alexandrou (based on Alexa traffic):
…it seems that BlogRush has replaced MyBlogLog as the defacto blog widget. Sure, I still see MyBlogLog widgets on various sites, but I think the number is on the decline. Those that remain are probably there because, like me, the site owners just haven’t thought about them for a while.
Joe Denison, banned from blogrush:
So I’m quite confused as to why they think the site has breached these guidelines. It doesn’t really help since the email doesn’t specify which rule is broken, or have any comments from the reviewer. How am I meant to know what to change to make it kosher? I’m not too impressed with any of it to be honest. I actually felt quite insulted by it, so perhaps I won’t bother resubmitting it at all.
John Cow, banned from blogrush:
We would love to get Mr Reese’s explanation on why this blog got banned, one of the first to start successfully promoting blogrush and delivering them nearly 1000 direct referrals last time we could check. Perhaps they went bust and couldn’t afford our credits anymore? We held up our end of the bargain, promoted the widget, generated the traffic, but Mr Reese and his team seem to be unable to cope with the amount of exposure their widget has gotten. It’s bad for any marketer to over-promise and under-deliver. Wonder how many more blogs out there got banned for no apparent reason..
Derek Semmler on the herd mentality:
Lately the blogosphere has produced a few examples of herd mentality - BlogRush and WidgetBucks …[] smaller bloggers witnessed the big guns touting this new service, there was a fear-based reaction that caused them to sign up as well to avoid missing out on the next great thing.
Desty Online, on whether or not BlogRush was really ready to launch:
Had Blogrush been released in it’s final form (which is still isn’t) with all the hype, it would have been a smashing success. On the other hand, if it had been released exactly as it was but without the massive marketing push behind it, I think everyone would have been alittle more tolerant of its issues and allowed it to grow naturally.

Thanks for the link.
Despite all the negative words out there, I like Blogrush. Everytime I hit a blog that has it, I check it out. I have a feature on my site where I link to articles I find interesting. I’m always on the lookout for new blogs I haven’t seen before. Blogrush opens those doors.
Pretty good write-up. I am fascinated by the people who will just dump any trashy plugin on their site becuase it looks cool … basically delivers nothing. And I hadn’t heard about John Chow being blocked … what use is any service if it blocks one of the premier blogging-related sites? Anyone every hear of freedom of choice?
BTW, a few people have mentioned the lucicrous MLM scheme … but no one seems able to call this ugly baby what it really is. John Reese is an Internet marketer who has made a significant income for years from peddling products to his opted-in mailing list … the single linch-pin of any affiliate-oreineted site. So he now has how many hundreds of thousands of new “opt ins” based on BlogRush and it’s 10 level-deep opt-in” scheme? Call a spade a spade.
Incidentally youe ugly pop up “lightbox” device is unwelcome and not at all what one would expect to flash in their face when visiting a legitimate blog. I’ve been a faithful reader but I’ll only be back once more if that thing pops up again … it certainly won’t tept many purchasers 9n my view.
I’m with some of the other guys — I was on this one quite early and promoted it as well as I could, being a newbie and all with my blog.
In the end, I was taken off and turned off. No reason given. No, I don’t have any idea as to why.
I will say that I got absolutely nothing from BlogRush while it was up and running on my site. So, if I’m missing something, then the good part is, “I don’t know it!!”
I am starting to think it’s a scam. I referred loads of people with thousands of credits a day and then they just came and dropped me. They said i couldnt reaply to join for a month and my credits would not be applied to me whilst I was not in the system. I wondered how they would be getting all the free traffic to send to the smaller blogs. It is obviously by taking it away from the pople who have generated it!
My blog may be new but it is set up and not breaking any rules, so I assume they are making thier own rules to be able to get your traffic and credits off you.
Looks now that something that looked so good is either a scam or the people running it have be hijacked by their ego’s and think they can do what they want because they are the kings.
Upsetting good bloggers is not a smart thing to do and I feel sad that it will be just another has been idea..
Hope everyone has a fantastic day regardless of this kind of thing :o)
Warmest Regards
Mark
I am one of the new bloggers that fell for BlogRush only to have my account made inactive. Their reasons were not enough content and not enough unique content. Content is content whether it is some one else’s or your own. As long as it is good content,is relevant to your sight, and provides the reader with the information they seek.
A really great article…… No punches pulled and just the facts.
Nice to see a non name marketer ( No Offence Gobala) telling it as it is to a named marketer.
Hopefully John Reese will join this thread and answer the questions and problems being faced by some of his users.
Blogrush looks a great idea and i do hope that John Reese gets it working well for himself and all of the smaller marketers out there.
Well done Gobala
All the best
Richard
I too would love to get Mr Reese’s explanation on why my blog at http://unlonely.com got banned. If I remember correctly it vaguely implied duplicate content, but I wrote all the content and it is not duplicate content. Possibly because its new and could not provide much traffic or many clicks it was deemed unacceptable.
Lucky me for not following the herd.
I have a blog I started not long before BlogRush started. So I tried it. It was easy to set up and it sounded like a good idea.
Then the warning of the review came. I was one of the people that have very little traffic but was told “your blog has passed our strict Quality Guidelines and criteria — we believe you have a high-quality blog and we are happy you’re a member of our network!”.
I was one of the ones that would qualify for free views.
I do get some but not what you might think. I think yesterday they gave me 12.
Now John has sent out a email saying people aren’t clicking on the widget because of placement. That it should be visible at the top or as soon as someone begins
to scroll down the page. If you do this “you can pretty much guarantee that you won’t be receiving a “widget performance WARNING” from our system asking you to improve the placement. The reason people aren’t coming to my blog is because other people with widgets aren’t placing their BlogRush widget high enough on their page. It’s not Blogrush it’s the other users. I don’t think people avoid clicking because of placement. It’s more likely they don’t see anything they want to click on. So I guess I am going to get a performance review next.
One thing I’m considering is putting more thought into the title of my posts. That’s what shows in the widget.
Along the lines of what you would do if using Google AdWords. It’s sad when you need to play head games to get clicks.
For now I’m going to leave BlogRush on my blog. It’s free
and may someday offer something to one of my visitors. If BlogRush drops me no big deal. Their loss not mine.
Before I wrote this I went to some other blogs that have BlogRush and clicked several links. I must say I was not thrilled with what I found. A few just had a couple of paragraphs and a link to an item for sale. Not much value or content. Just not what I would consider of value at all. I have also checked out some of the dropped blogs and don’t know why they were dropped. I think some one may have been cheating on the review process. Well it’s John’s toy not mine. He has to do the tweaking.
Thanks Gobala I read all your newletters and get your RSS
feed. I’ve learned a lot from you and will be using your themes on some of my blogs.
Best regards - John
I have also installed the widget on 3 of my blogs hoping to get more traffic, but it seems that the widget failed to bring in traffic to my blogs. Blogrush has yet to deliver what it claimed. Hope it will live up to it soon.
Hi Gobala -
Just wanted to say that after I posted here saying that I had low traffic and wasn’t getting many bonus credits they went up. Coincidence?
I see a difference in traffic BlogRush says I’m getting and what Google says. The traffic for the past 30 days on the BlogRush site says 127. But Google Analytics says 71. That’s a major difference. I wonder who’s right. Does any one know why there would be a 127/71 difference. For Google that’s all visits not absolute unique visitors.
I can’t see Google traffic for today until 3am tomorrow where I am Blogrush says I have 2 for today. But even if I consider the Google lag it can only account for a few visitors.
I wonder if the other statistics on the BlogRush site are
correct or they are inflated to look better than they are.
Thanks - John
Quite an interesting discussion going on here on Blogrush.
I have chosen to take Blogrush off my blog for several reasons.
1. It didn’t bring me any valuable traffic. I got a total of 76 visitors from it in 1 month despite the fact that I got around 450 actual visitors a day to my blog. For me that’s simply not good enough for a service that claims to send me 100s of targeted visitors.
2. I’m so over hype! Even though I got sucked into it at the beginning my gut told me to stay away from it. Might be wrong, might be right, who knows, but I’m happy with my decision.
Monika
John Reese!!!!!
Where are you???
Everybody here would like to get some answers to their questions.
Please come onto the thread and tell us how it really is, once we all understand and are getting hundreds of visitors to our blogs you will have an army of loyal fervant recommenders of BLOG ‘not” RUSH “ing” at the moment.
All the Best
Hi Gobala -
Well I logged into BlogRush and on the page it shows how many impressions you have received. Not bad if you can believe it. It also shows the number readers for the last 12 posts. Well I’m excited I got 1 and I’m not sure it wasn’t the BlogRush people when they did the reviews. That’s all just 1 reader. Which is way off from what they indicate my traffic was.
My blog focuses on Alzheimer’s disease but I often cover topics that benefit the general population. I have a few posts on Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) that are worth there weight in gold. How to get rid of symptoms in hours and the non-affiliate source for the herbal product I use and how to use it.
I have been seeing increase in organic search engine traffic. I’ve had 3 visitors from here. That’s more than from BlogRush. Blogrush says they got rid of 10,000 users that didn’t make the cut. I can’t see how they could have gone over that many blogs plus the ones they deemed quality blogs. Maybe this was a bit quick on the draw.
If some one lands on a blog that doesn’t have much to offer they may take advantage of something like BlogRush on that blog if they see something that catches their eye. Personally I don’t care if the traffic coming to my site comes from a blog that doesn’t meet BlogRush standards. As long as they come.
When BlogRush started it was all about creating traffic not being the web police. I know they have full control of where they want their widget used. I have to ask - Hey John Reese how’s that working for you. Maybe time to change the game plan. This could really work if you don’t think the rules are more important than the results. Sometimes when we start to succeed we cause ourselves to fail by refusing to compromise or change.
I also clicked on John Cow’s name above where he said he was banned from BlogRush but I see an active widget on his page. Must have been reinstated. We need more reinstated and new sign ups to get this going the way it should. Maybe some cross category impressions. Starting to feel like beating a dead dog. Even the chatter on the forums (good or bad) is almost dead. I see a lot of opinions but no solutions offered.
I think there’s still hope. I’ve found some really good blogs I would have never found with out BlogRush. Even before they made the cut. John Reese I know you have the answer within you. You just need to seek it. Don’t give up.
Thanks - John
‘The Cow’ got reinstated because he’s at least a high-B if not an A-List blogger. Peons won’t be reinstated even if they grovel, especially if they complain about it in their blog.
But, don’t worry, you can still use BlogRush to find all the “Made For Affiliate Offer” blogs that you want.
If you want real traffic, try niche social bookmarking sites and StumbleUpon.
BlogRush is a joke and it is one of the reasons that I came up with the idea for Blogging Zoom. I joined BlogRush with my blog Bu.bulicio.us and in a matter of days I was number one in the network with 67k impressions but only received 178 referrals.
Then came the email that my site was banned. Not one explanation or answers to my 5 emails.
I made a deep analysis of there system and came to a conclusion. By definition BlogRush is flawed. Bloggers want people to visit there sites but most of the time do not visit others blogs and if they do they do not click on other bloggers ads, this is why traditionally Adsense CTR and Adsense CPC on make money blogs is horrible.
When Court and my self conceptualize Blogging Zoom we wanted to bring Bloggers organic traffic that in there current situation would have no chance to gain. We wanted non bloggers to learn what a powerful platform the blogging world could provide to them.
Bloggers are not driven by corporate or politics. Bloggers are driven by providing there look and take on topics making it an out of the box critical thinker.
BlogRush was launched with a huge financial backing and all the Big Boys touting the service. Blogging Zoom was launched with little financial resources and almost know cloud, but with a huge desire to provide us bloggers a platform where we can compete to get our message out there to the mainstream readers.
In just the 14 days Blogging Zoom has been running we are over 9 months ahead of Digg in traffic time line. Blogging Zoom has done more for bloggers in 14 days than BlogRush has ever done since there existence.
BlogRush is already heading for a quick death and John Reese knows it. You can not start a service and then kick out the same people that drove the people to your service.
For the past 14 days both Court and me almost have gotten no sleep, but we listen to Blogging Zoom users and are already incorporating every suggestion to improve Blogging Zoom.
We listen to BZ users because they are the only reason that BZ exist. How could we turn our backs on them when they are the reason Blogging Zoom is heading to become a powerhouse that all the big boys will have to acknowledge.
I wish I was a better person and wish BlogRush the best. But in the 4 months that Bu.bulicio.us has been running I have never felt like a spot in the wall than the day my site was banned from BlogRush. How was I supposed to explain to my readers that my blog was banned and that I did everything by there rules.
BlogRush is dying from multiple diseases and not only I am glad but also proud that one of those diseases is called Blogging Zoom.
On a side note I want to take this time also to thank you Gobala because I started Bu.bulicio.us July 17, 2007 and one of the reasons that it has had the success it has it is because I am one of your students from your Wordpress Adsense System. Your Wordpress Adsense System was one of the most valuable tools that any new blogger should have in there arsenal.
Also only a small hand full of top bloggers picked up the Blogging Zoom launch and you where one of them. Not only are we extremely grateful but proud that you mentioned us.
To every Bloggers success and always remember, it is us Bloggers against the world so let’s unite.
Your Friend
Vic

I removed the BlogRush widget from my blog a couple of days ago. While I managed to pass muster when many well-known blogs were given the ax, I continued to wonder if I’d see much traffic action.
While I have seen nice spurts of traffic for various posts, I found it odd the particular title posts that got the most syndication.
What really disturbed me, and ultimately lead to removing the widget from my blog, was the numerous (and I mean NUMEROUS) times I would go to check my stats and find myself looking at someone else’s dashboard! I had easy access to “Jane Doe” stats, email address etc, where I could spam the heck out of the user, or gosh knows what else I could do. That made it clear to me that my privacy was at risk, and I wasn’t going to stand for that. Bye Bye BlogRush!
Gobala can you please check I think my comment got caught in the spam box
I gave up on BR about a week into it being on my blog. I kept them around for well over a month until several days after “phase 2″ launched and in all that time (I installed it 2 or 3 days after the beta release) it got me a total of 63 hits according to Google Analytics and 58 according to “uncommon uses” in Feedburner stats. Either way I declared it to be a dismal failure and ran from it as fast as I could.
Since I found this via Blogging Zoom I doubt I need to tell you much about that site but I will say it has been tremendous in driving traffic. And guess what? They didn’t make any absurd promises or anything like that.
Did BlogRush damage my blog or was there any need for a warning? No.
Has it sent traffic. A bit,but not much. It seems to be worse after the “improvment.”
There are much better ways to get traffic. Blogging Zoom, for instance.
I get so few things right I actually feel a little proud of myself for seeing this one coming. I didn’t fall for the BlogRush promise as the math never seemed to work to me. I wasn’t at all surprised when I started hearing about all the problems. I’m happy to have dodged this bullet.
Hey Vic: I resurrected your longish comment from the Spam folder.
Glad you were happy about the mention, I did two reviews that day and I have to say that Blogging Zoom has proven to be a very good tool so far.
Many bloggers report great traffic from it already and time will tell the future but I for myself am confident.
Wow, there are some hard feelings about Blogrush.
I have to say I don’t seem to have had much traffic from it on a few blogs I have, but maybe it is early days - who knows?
What I can say is that it seems pointless flogging a dead horse. So if the point of Blogrush is to get some traffic I know it’s not doing it for me and it’s clearly not doing it for others, judging by all the posts I read.
On that basis it makes sense not to waste any further time and screen real estate on it.
But let’s not blame anyone but ourselves for believing all the hype surrounding its launch. It’s obvious huge numbers of people wanted that easy traffic they were promised - and who wouldn’t?
Vic: thank you for your nice comment. I’m only the messenger, you guys have done all the hard work by launching this cool tool.
Hopefully it will go from strength to strength.
You guys have nothing but impressed me so far. Because you are everywhere and genuinely seem to care and I believe this means a lot to bloggers.
I also wish you two all the best and tons of success.
Easy Weight Loss: you are right, us humans always seem to fall for hype and the the blaming game begins. It is easier to blame others after all isn’t it.
We all need to do what we need to do.
I hesitantly jumped on the bandwagon very early on and have been using constantly, clicking through to others’ blogs very frequently to do my part in supporting the system.
But I’m still not seeing any appreciable amount of traffic from BR. Out of the past 2 dozen of our posts have been syndicated, only 3 have been clicked-through to.
I will say that BlogRush prompted me to become even more focused on short, grabby, & relevant post titles. I haven’t entirely given up on BR yet, but it’s getting harder & harder to keep the faith…
Overall, there’s still far too little randomization in the BlogRush widget - very often it serves up the same blog posts repeatedly. Aesthetically, I know lots of people have issues with the design of the widget, but my biggest issue is that I’d like to have a horizontally-oriented version of the widget to better integrate into my blog’s “sidebarless” layout.
I only gave up on BlogRush because they gave up on me. When I receive an email that I oops my blog didn’t cut the mustard, I said Oh Well. I admired John Reese because he appeared to care about the newer internet marketers and their success. Today he appears to care about his success only. Thanks for the help John. I have moved on to Real Traffic Exchange.
