Advantages of Blogging Through WordPress
November 27, 2007 | By Monika Mundell |
Blogging through WordPress gives us bloggers so many extra opportunities compared to blogger dot com for example. I have used both Blogger and WordPress for a while now and every time I’m inclined to start blogging on yet another new blog, WordPress is my choice.
Probably the main advantage of blogging with WordPress is the fact that I can upload the software to my own domain. Blogger is ok if you are blogging in a niche and using adsense and maybe affiliate marketing as your main source of income.
But you will never really own the blog with Blogger and in my eyes that is too risky for me if I invest a lot of time into blogging.
Many bloggers get held back to start with their own domain because they are afraid of setting up WordPress on their own domain.
If you are still unsure about doing this, you might want to start here:
I blogged about setting up WordPress on a domain a little while ago and these tutorials should get you up an running. I have planned to write some more tutorials in the near future on setting up sub domains etc too.
Having a blog on a stand alone domain makes blogging simply more fun since we can sleep at night without worrying that we could loose it all in an instant.
For those bloggers who are looking to make the transition from Blogger to WordPress, I can highly recommend this as it will make your blogging experience a more versatile and fun one.

If I want to make money through Adsense, I have to use wordpress.org, right?
(2) You recommended Wordpress rather than Blogger. I believe the probability of my Adsense account being approved by Google is higher if I use Blogger rather than Wordpress since Blogger is owned by Google. Am I right? I am afraid that I will have difficulty in getting my Adsense account application approved if I use Wordpress. Even if it is approved, it may not be as fast as the one if I use Blogger.
I would appreciate your quick reply. Thanks!
I think if you comply with Blogger’s subject matter rules and restrictions, you’re correct in thinking your blogs Adsense Ad approval will be quicker. Plus I think you’ll have a faster presence in some of the search engines.
But Monika’s excellent advice should be heeded : “… you will never really own the blog with Blogger and in my eyes that is too risky for me if I invest a lot of time into blogging.”
Alexis: very well said and I think that is what most bloggers seem to forget. The time investment we all give by blogging frequently would want to make us own the blog - just in case something goes wrong.
The thought of loosing my hard work in an instant is horrible and I never want that to happen again.
I am very satisfied with wordpress. It is so easy. i have been blogging for about 4 months and I can make changes on the fly. I can post without any problems and the blog is all mine!
Hi Ethanator1088,
Isn’t WordPress cool?
Like you say, it is easy to use (once you get the hang of it) and there are so many ways to style your blog.
Good to hear you are doing well.
